4.2L oil capacity?

Hey Gang,

Just did an oil change in a new-to-me Jeep Islander, with 4.2L engine....it took considerably less oil than I expected....and less than I expected came out.....did change w/filter and only used about 4qt to refill to full...checked several times, before/after driving, hot/cold, etc....but it is full...with only 4qt???

Heck, my little 4-banger toyota takes more oil than that!

Is there something going on I don't know?

Just curious....

I thnk the 4.2 & 4.0 takes 6 quarts including the filter. Call up an autozone and they should be able to tell you the correct ammount.... but I'm pretty sure its 6 quarts.

Yup 6qt was my understanding...

I removed the plug, took off the fill cap, and removed the filter....waited a half hour for it to finish draining the last drops...wound up with about 1.5" in my drain bucket....put just under 4qts in it, and it is at the full mark....after driving....

So where is all my oil??????????????????
