4.2L to v8?

I have a 1990 wrangler with 4.2L ax/15 trans and np243 transfer. I want to put in a v-8 but nothing radical. I need to know if the amc 304's thru 401's will bolt up to the ax/15. If not what trans do they need ? Thanks for the help

Sounds like your on the right track and adapters won't be needed for those engines. Official AMC V8 swap thread - JeepForum.com

Chrysler engines will also bolt up with a bell housing from a mid 90s Dakota. Check out Novak Adapters as well as Advanced Adapters for more info on swaps and the proper things to do it. Anytime you do a swap if your going for FI definitely grab the engine harness as well from the donor. Engines themselves are basically dumb things, the electronics tell it what to do. They can be as simple as an old point style distributor controlled to new model fuel injected gotta have the ECU type engines. I am seriously thinking about a 4.3 Vortec V6. Good horsepower and torque that wont be apt to blow out drivetrain as bad as a V8 and hopefully will still get decent gas mileage.

Good luck!
