so when I got the Jeep, it had a bad vibration... I Had bigger tires put on it and had them balanced.. hoped that would fix it.. but of course it didn't.... I have been told that U-joints would be the first thing to look at but I wanted to know from some Jeep people... I am planning on driving it from West Virginia to Tennessee in June.. I dont want to have to take back roads all the way there.. haha.. if someone knows what it could be... please help.. I'm young and not sure bout how to fix the vibration... it's the first 4X4 that i have owned.
does it feel like you lose complete control of the jeep? if so maybe the "death wobble". i had the "death wobble" in my 95 and when i did my lift replaced u-joints etc while i was under there and problem was fixed. there is a thread @ top of this section about "deaeth wobble"

yeah is it a side to side violent shake or is it like the jeep hit a harmonic resonance. if the first then most likely dw. if the second i would say driveline problem i had the secound ended up being a bent front drive shaft.

If it is a constant massage like vibration coming from straight down it seems, go after the U joints. You can check them by simply grabbing the driveshaft and shaking the ends in all directions, you should not feel any slop in the U joints. In my ranger when they went out, it would feel darn near like it wanted to jump off the ground. I lost a whole end cap and it really threw them out of whack. If yours are tight, eleminate as a possible cause and move to the next thing.
If it is something that makes you feel like you are loosing control of your front end, you got the death wobble or a bad sway bar, etc... see those threads. I would say your on the right track, already eleminated your tires as the problem. Keep lookin, something won't be right...
First, U-Joint play/breakage. Second steering linkage play/breakage. Visually inspect all parts. If nothing visually appears to be the culprit then tug on things. They should not give. If they do then you may have found it. Just as a double checker on the tires, is there any abnormal wear on even one tire, front or back?
But, again, if it is happening at speed and not a constant problem, it's probably not rubber but still worth looking at.
If no to all of the above, check motor mounts, check for leakage on your shocks. I think your problem will be covered by the first two. U Joints/steering.

Just went from 215/75/15 tires to 31/10.50-15's and developed a vibration immediately upon first test drive .Got under there and found the front axle u-joints to be shot to hell ,did drivers side last night and cut the vibration in half ,doing the other on Saturday ,should take care of it.Noy saying this is your issue but check the front axle joints.
