4wd issues

Well,
My front axle does not go into 4wd.Transfer case is working fine, just front hubs don't lock in.Was getting no vacuum to the shift motor on the axle so a traced the lines.Turns out they were all melted at the switch.Repaired all that and to no avail no 4wd.Then i pulled the switch out of the transfer case.Well the check ball in the switch moved in and out when i pushed it with my thumb so i juiced it with some wd40 rolled it around and re-installed.Still no 4wd.I started it up,put it in 4wd and pulled the plug off the transfer case switch and i didn't feel any vacuum from the switch.I got a couple questions before i jump in feet first. Is ther something in the transfer case that pushes the check ball in to allow vacuum to come through or does the vacuum itself push the ball in and then go where it has to.I'm also curious on how hard or easy that check ball is supposed to be to push in.(maybe too stiff?).Either way from what i can tell i'm gett'n no vacuum past that switch.Maybe ya'll have an easier way of diagnosing this issue. Thanks

Update:From what i read in the in the post on this board it says red line is supposed to be constant vacuum feed.Well the red line on mine comes off the switch goes up in front of the carbon cannister and then through a little bracket by the motor mount and just has a pice of rubber hose on the end like it's some sort of vent. The blue line goes up by the carbon cannister and has a check valve or whatever it is on the end of it.The other lines are in thier prespective areas.I found a broke vacuum hose that went to the back of the TBI to in through the firewall.Fixed that.Still noth'n.

its been a while since i've dealt with this, but if red is supposed to be constant vacuum, then it should be connected to the intake manifold, or some vacuum source. if its just hangin there it probably came off, or broke somewhere. maybe someone knows where it is supposed to be plugged in exactly.

anyone had any experience with the cable that is supposed to replace the vacuum mechanism.

Well the weird part is that it looks like it's supposed to be that way it's even got a little notch cut out where the hose fits into.I'll check into again tomorrow.Oh by the way i actually opened my eyes and looked and found the 02 sensor.

Update!!!The jeep is fixed!!!Well i dug through endless google pages (and here) and in the end it kept pointing to the red line being constant vacuum.Well i spent 5 bucks at the local speed shop and got 6ft of vacuum tube.Hooked it to the red line(after fixing the melted lines at the switch) then ran it to the port in the tbi and SHAZAAM! 4WD light came on and clunk there it is.Wow i feel like i just saved a kid from an abusive home. This guy didn't show this thing any love.No water in the rad. .P.S. line loose(little fluid).etc. etc. Oh well keep plug'n away.

sounds like my issue I had.. only, the vacume lines were backwards (in 2wd the front actuator had the axles locked in, and in 4wd, the axles were unlocked. weird) glad you got it workin tho!!!!
