4wd light stays on

So I just got a 1994 YJ, and the 4 wheel drive light is on, the transfer case is in 2hi, and my limited experience with 4x4 vehicles tells me that it is in 2 wheel. I don't get any chirping when taking a tight corner, and what I take from reading the search is this might not be an uncommon problem. Are there any tests I can do to make sure I am out of 4 wheel drive. (its a little hard to see if the front drive shaft is spinning when I am sitting behind the wheel haha)

Get a marker or just scratch the drive shaft then drive 10 ft and get out and look to see if the mark has moved. You would know if it was engaged because it would buck a little on pavement and when you went to turn.

I think the indicator is vacuum activated as well as the front axle. You may have an incorrect vacuum connection.
