5-Speed Transmission Same As Toyota Tacoma Trans?

A friend who owns a transmission repair shop said that the 5-speed transmission in my YJ is nothing more than a Toyota Tacoma transmission. What say ye?? If this is true, then finding a replacement transmission should be easier to come by. Not that I need one (because mine is fine...)

It is not identical but is very similar to the Toyota R151... I believe the bolt pattern to the bellhousing and the case halves are the same, but internals are not. With the matching bolt patterns, it sounds like an easy swap and another option for to getting from the salvage.

YJ does NOT stand for "Yuppie Jeep".
Jeeps should only have TWO doors.
You should ALWAYS wave at other JEEP drivers.

Wow, you're right. Lots of work involved, TOO MUCH for me to think about. I'll just protect my original Transmission!! Thank you for the input!
