5th gear noises

I was driving in 5th gear with rpm's around 1500. It made a weird sound. Like a knocking or chugging sound. I am bad at describing noises. It didnt make any noises in any other gear. It is carbureted What could that be?

How fast were you going? even on the freeway I dont use 5th.
I blame the 4 cylinder and 33's though.

You could be bogging it down if you were trying to accelerate. chugging and knocking are a common side affect in that instance.

Is there anything wrong with driving in 4th? As long as I keep it around 2000-2500 rpm?

I have a 2.5L in 4th at 70 im at 3K RPM and have no issues, I imagine your 6 cylinder would be ok.

If you are going that fast, 5th should be ok for cruising, but hit 4th to pass anyone.

Also I think you might want to check your trans fluid level, if its dirty, maybe change the fluid, if for any other reason, do it for preventive maintenance.

70?!? I couldn't even dream of doing that unless I'm rolling downhill. Haha
