8.8/D35 driveshaft length question

Im about to order a SYE, driveshaft, and belly up skid(not flat), install all, then do an 8.8 shortly after.

Basically I need to know if my new DS will be long enough after I install all of the above, then switch axles.

Its been a few years since my last 8.8 swap (7.5 to be exact) and I remember the pumpkin is off to one side and I thought the pinion length was shorter.

Will my new shaft be too short when I go to do the 8.8?

I would wait till you have the 8.8 and then install and order the shaft...i can tell you the distance on mine with a sye and 4" sua standard skid plate.. is right around 17.5" or so as I recall.. that's center of joint.

not exactly the answer I was hoping for

surely someone has swapped rear ends and already had SYE/CV shaft and can tell me how much of their slip joint they lost, the tattons driveshaft Im ordering has 7" of slip joint so I imagine it should be ok, I cant imagine the difference is more than an inch or two.

hell, I currently have a stock DS with about 4" of suspension and no problems

I have a rugged ridge off the shelf cv driveshaft and sye. I got the one for 3-4" lift IIRC.

It worked on my d35 and now works great on my 8.8 with my flat skid. All i did was put the 8.8 flange yoke i got from the junkyard with the axle on my ds. The u joints were the same cause i have a 95.

When i did the 8.8 i set the pinion angle and it is great.

It should work. I know the 8.8 is a bit longer (and I did all of my shaft stuff last), but I did a bunch of base measurements and I think it's only about 2" of difference. If you have a long slip shaft, you should be good.

You'll be fine. The longer 8.8 pinion will make up for the fact that it is further off center. I think there is only a 1/2" or so difference in length when I swapped from D35 with SOA and SYE to 8.8 SOA with SYE. It's not a problem.

well I just got all my questions answered and then some strait from the horse's mounth. I called up Tattons to see if he could build my DS off what I have done and what Im going to do and he said no problem. Seemed like a super nice guy and was happy to answer all my questions, even answered ther first ring haha. So Im going to call him back tomorrow when I have my measurements and order his DS and SYE
