8.8 locker question

I am looking for an 8.8 for my YJ. Have found 2 in my area that seem good. My question is this, i found one with 4.10 gears and a limited slip. I thought that with those gears I could save some money on a f/r gear swap and just swap the fronts for 4.10. (or finrd a 4 cyl front axle) But can a factory limited slip carrier accept a lunchbox type of locker?

No it cant cause the spider gears were already replaced by clutch packs. If you wanted LSD and Locker look at Aurburn Elect Locker

Not true. There is at least one company that makes a lunchbox locker that will fit the posi carrier. The Powertrax No Slip locker makes a lunchbox locker for a posi carrier and they also make another that fits an open carrier.

The posi in an 8.8 looks to still contain the spider gears and an additional spring as well...mine is a posi 8.8.

I like the sound of that. I wanted to remove the posi stuff drop in a powertrax and be done with it. My jeep is a relatively budget minded build so I wanted to not have to regear both axles if i dont have to. And its not a daily driver so the auto locker isnt a concern.

Sorry i wasn clear, I just wanted a locker and would remove the LSD stuff. There is a 3.73 geared axle with an open carrier and I know that would work but id rather have the 4.10 gears esp since the 4cyl axles are 4.10. I could swap on ein for less than the cost of a regear.

So I did some research, there are 2 types of power read lockers one for the LSD and one for the open carrier. What I don't know, there is a 3/4 and 7/8 shaft. What is that referring to??

It may be referring to cross pin that goes through the carrier. Ill see if I can find an answer

I looked in a sticky that I had made a while back. According to it (it was info I found on another site) the 3/4 cross pin is for the 28 spline axle shafts and the 7/8 cross pin is for the 31 spline axle shafts.

Thank you for the great link. At least now I know exactly what I am going to have to deal with. The swap is pretty simple considering. Now my only real concern is dealing with the small bit of lift due to being sprung under still. I gotta figure out how to add a little lift back to my springs.
