8.8 Question

I've had a 92 YJ with the 4.0 L and manuel shift for a few years now and ready to do some upgrades. I'm wanting to put a RC 6" lift and 35" tires along with the SYE and shaft as my first steps. Future mods are to include a V8 swap with axle upgrades. My plans are for this to be mostly a "mall crawler" with some weekend light offroading. I'm reading in the forum that the 8.8 should be an eventual upgrade, correct? I looked under car-part.com and they were listing axles assblys for V6 & V8's. Are they different? Which should I be looking at? Will the 4:10 gearing be enough or will this need to be changed out also? What gearing would I need? Sorry for so many ?'s

I believe the axles are all the same with the exception of the changeover from drum to disc brakes in 1995. Some have 28 spline axles and others have 31 splines. There is some differences in width depending on what model of vehicle you get it from.

As far as figuring out what gearing to go with here are a couple of links to online gear ratio calculators.

any explorer rear end should be good. the f-150 8.8s will be wider and have the wrong lug pattern. the exploder ones are 5 on 4.5 like you need and will be close (one inch narrower) than the stock track width. the rangers came with 28 spline axles, but afaik, all exploders had 31 spline axles.
