I just purchase a 89 Jeep Wrangler and the previous owner side it is a 4.6.
- I am understand to make sure that it is to pull the Oil Pan and get the number off the Crank?
- The carburetor on the Jeep I believe is Carter and the choke was not working; just found out it was not getting DC to the Choke. After hooking DC up to it still runs bad. Looking to change it out.
- Plus if it is what would the best Carburetor it? (Weber36 or 38 or Motorcraft 2100 or 2150)
I have a stroked in my 90. 4.2 crank with 4.0 block and head. If it is the 4.0 block it shouldn't have mechanical pump. I'm pretty sure the 4.0 never had the fuel pump provision. I'm not positive. I would go with the motorcraft for the carb.
I agree with the old motors came with mech. pump the block it would need to be a 4.6 or 4.7 or 5.0 stroker would not have a pump on the block, it would need a 4.0 block. Get a Block number for us and don't pull the pan.
I have an 88 yj and it is the 4.2L. I replaced the weber with the 2150 from Gronk performance and it breathed life again, runs strong but still keys awhile on first start up. What a difference. Trying to decide on hei or "juicebox next".
By "still keys awhile" do you mean it cranks for several seconds before fireing? Many carburated Jeepers have a similar problem. It seems to be from no check valve between the fuel filter and the metal vent return line to the gas tank.
Search this forum for "hard start after 2 days". There are a few threads and many posts.
Probably a Mexican 282CID (4.6L) Made by VAM
You would have to measure the bore to be certain. 3.920"
