I was driving my yj the other day when it just died. No steering, brakes, gauges ,etc. Everything lost power except the headlights, tail lights, brake lights and turn signals/emergency flashers. Upon inspection I found that the wire for the electric choke had come loose and grounded out on the block. So now nothing works except for the lights, turn the key and it clicks as if the battery is dead. I'm not sure when to begin, any and all help is appreciated. I have done the weber 32/36 conversion if that helps any.
I checked all the fuses under the dash when it happened and then i checked again when it was daylight and I could see and all of those fuses look good. I've been told that there are in line fuses on these if so where are they.
I'm assuming you have the 4.2? There are fusable links on the 3 red wire going to the solenoid. See if you can test them, that would be a good place to start. Another thought, and common failure point, is the ICM (ignition control module). Located on the inner fender under the radiator overflow bottle.
Yes it is a 4.2L. if it happens to be the fusible links that you are talking about how do you replace them, and are those going to the solenoid on the starter?. My dad looked at the jeep some today and found some burnt wires, not sure where they go to, all he said was that the go to some box under the battery, I'm guessing the power distribution block. With my work schedule I cant do anything to it right now so more info will be coming Friday. Since I have done a weber conversion and will be nuttering it what all can I delete from the emissions and electrical systems.
I think I found the problem, there is a burnt wire coming from the power distribution block but I'm not sure where it is going to. It is however burnt up before the fuse so maybe I can just cut out the bad spot and splice it back together.
I have outlined the burnt wire
and another view
and this one I'm wondering if i can delete what I have outlined it goes to the exhaust.

The thing out lined, fell off mine and I pulled the one next to it out by hand, they go to the Cat. as for as I know, mine where rusted out and you don't need the Cat. if it is Nuttered, it is all ready an Off Road Car. By EPA Standards. A lot of our's are!
Those wires may go to a O2 sensor that is not in use if it is Nuttered. but by them being connected where they are I they go to some thing like the Alt.
Yea the pipes going to the exhaust I think I'm going to remove them and weld the hole from them on the exhaust bc at idle it caused alot of fumes to come in the cab. The wires acording to the wire diagram goes to either the starter relay, icm, ignition switch and something else
Yea I seen the fuse its burnt between it and the pdb
