90 yj 2.5l blown, whats a good motor for a swap

My 2.5 just started blowing all kinds of oil out of the top of the valve cover and dip stick. Im told it excessive blow by and the engine is shot. I hate to put a lot of money back into a 2.5. I was considering switching to a 4.0L But have heard its a pain. Would love some suggestions, or if anyone knows what type of engines are good canadates for the YJ I'd love to know.

I had originally planned to do a Diesel conversion with 4BT, but don't have the money to pull that off yet. I just looked at a conversion kit for a small block chevy, but that kit cost more than a new engine. I could have sworn the last conversion kit I bought (its been a long time) was much less.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and happy trails.

For a 90 YJ you can go with 4.2 that was an option up to 90.

I have a 95 4cly. When my engine died I found it was cheaper just to go back with a 4cyl. I figure if I want a 6, it would be easier to sell mine and buy a jeep with a inline 6. I also had a hard time finding a shop that sounded willing to do the swap. Im not sure but I hear it gets expensive when you price everything that should be changed along with the engine.

any swap you do is big money unless stay with the same engine. most the time you have to change trans,t-case or buy expensive adaptors, computor, wireing harness extend fuel lines, radiator. the list goes on and on. and to have a shop do it you might as well just buy a new jeep.
