91 YJ has power but no spark

Hi im new to this site, and joined because i have a problem with my 91 wrangler with the 2.5 4 banger. The problem is, it has been sitting for a year or so, and i tried starting it not long ago, and it cranks but wont fire. Everything works fine on it, including the fuel system, but there is no spark. I checked the wire connectors going to the coil and distributor and they have power. I replaced the coil, due to it not giving spark to the distributor, but it didn't fix anything. There is no power comming from the coil, but there is power going to it. Im stumped, help is much appreciated.

so you know that spark isn't coming out of the coil, you checked it at the coil, not at a plug wire? if the coil is getting power make sure the ground is good. make sure you have fuel pressure and injector pulse, you might have more than one thing not working. if you don't have pulse and spark, you could have a crank sensor, cam sesnor, or ecu problem.

do you know how to check for codes with they ignition cycling? i'd try it even though you don't always get a valid code.

good luck and keep us updated with more info.

Yes that is correct that there is power going to the coil but not out. i checked it directly at the coil, and the ground is clean. I also did verify that the engine is seeing fuel pressure and injector pulse. I don't know how to check for codes with they ignition cycling. Maybe you could tell me how. Thank you very much for your help. I read that it is possible the cause of no spark is a failed ignition module, but i don't think that is problem due to the coil seeing power.

possible you got a bad coil out of the box, it happens.

to get codes turn the key from off to on three times in a row, ending in on. and count the times the check engine light flashes. there will be a 2 numbers so one set of flashes, then a pause, then a second set. to give you a two digit code. i'd say take your coil back for another one, its honestly happened too many times, and you tare your hair out for a day till you try it.

buy a manual there is a instructions how to diagnose ignition problems buy using your ecm. (turning the key in the sequence that it tells you to then counting the amount the check engine light flashes) another good tool to own is a sensor tester, you can test coils,map,tps,o2,crank,and the one that you probably need the cam sensor that is in the distributor. I carry a spare because I have had them just go for no reason before. I would check to make sure the contact (pickup)area between the sensor and the rotor is not rusty from sitting. good luck.

I'm having a similar problem... while not quite. have a 91 2.5. I do not seem to have power to the coil(should be 12v when ignition is on, right) and I don't know what else to check, or how. any help would be awsome!
Thanks
