91 YJ Sputters at High RPMs

Looking for any suggestions. I have a 91 YJ 2.5L that has began to 'sputter' at high rpms (2500 - 3000). It starts jerking until I let off a bit and then reapply gas slowly, but then when the RPMs climb back up it starts again. I bought it back in October 07 and immediately did a tune up (plugs, wires, etc) and then Nov replaced the fuel filter and water pump (which went out) and then in Dec the fuel pump went out and replaced it. Here it is the end of Jan and it seems like the problem started about 3 weeks after replacing the fuel pump. Of course as luck would have it, just last week the power steering pump went out so that was replaced along with a new serpentine belt. So here I am going into February with a sputtering Jeep (which happens to be my first) and wondering why the hell I bought it to begin with?? Oh, now I remember, someone told me I needed a hobby!! In any event, I really like this thing for some twisted reason and looking for advice on what would cause sputtering at high rpms. Everything is stock and it idles fine. Any suggestions?

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, I also replaced the catalytic converter back in Nov just after I got it (since it was shot), so that shouldn't be the problem..

...no really, was tank low, or last fill-up at questionable station? Maybe bad gas.

o2 Sensor would be good thing to check (by check i mean replace...not sure how to 'check' it) Not so cheap for the little bugger but very easy to replace by yourself.

Perhaps fuel filter....again....since pump was changes After that...maybe something is gumming it up.

Maybe you want to just upgrade to a 94?

Been using the same gas (BP) since I bought it and probably have gone through 3 fill ups since the time it started sputtering and it happens regardless of level. Also, back in Nov about the time when replacing the fuel filter I ran through some injector cleaner but they were already perfectly clean (no white smoke). Oh yeah, did i mention when I bought in Oct that it only had 2500 mi on an engine rebuild that had taken place about two years before?? Nonetheless, I'll try replacing the filter again and will swap out the o2 sensor... That '94's looking pretty good about now!

Well, looks like I took care of the sputter problem for now. Even though my plugs were only 45 days old, #2 plug was fould out (which i'm sure is a sign of something worse). So I replaced the plugs (that took care of the sputter) and also the o2 sensor. Parts store suggested that it was probably a bad o2 causing it to run really lean. We'll see what happens but for now no sputter! Thanks for the o2 sensor tip.
