'94 4.0L/I6 Funky Oil Pressure Indication???

I've got a '94 Jeep YJ Wrangler and it's been giving some weird oil pressure indications. . .

. . .I would say 80% of the time it's rock solid right where it's supposed to be. . .but sometimes it does something weird that I haven't seen before.

It will start out with the oil pressure right where it belongs and then when I push the clutch in to shift gears the oil pressure will peg high, let the clutch out and accelerate and the oil pressure will slowly drift back down, push the clutch back in to shift gears again and it will peg high. . .it will do this shifting between each gear while accelerating. . .once I get to whatever gear I'm gonna stay in and I'm cruising the oil pressure will return to normal and stay there (occasionally it will stay pegged, but that has only happened like twice. . .I push the clutch back in and let it back out and it will come back down).

Generally it doesn't do this while decelerating to a stop. . .only when accelerating through the gears

I know the oil level is good. . .and I even changed the oil and filter and it still does this.

It's kinda weird because it's not like their is no pressure indication so I don't think that any passages are clogged or blocked.

Any idea what this could be, what caused it or how to fix it?

I would change the pressure sensor and just check the pcv valve just to make sure you are not building pressure in the crankcase.

Finally got around to working on this problem. . .replaced the oil pressure sending unit and changed the oil/filter today.

Tell you if it fixes the problem after a test drive.

Thanks for the help!

Check your wiring under the dash, could be hitting the clutch pedal mechanism...
