94 Yj Starting Problems Help?

I have had no problems with my jeep starting until now. I go to turn it on and the key works half way to give me battery power but when i go to turn the motor on nothing happens and the starter/ motor is silent. This is wierd because my battery is charged and and i am gettting power to my starter. I tested my fuses they were all good. I cant figure out whats wrong. My only other idea would be that i have bad wiring from my igition to my starter. I dont know much about electric in jeeps. Can anyone help me?

If you are getting power to the starter with the key in the "crank" position then my guess is that your starter is bad. It is simple enough to remove it and if you are still unsure you can take it to the local (trusted) parts place and they will usually test it for you to be sure thats the issue.

It could just be a bad wire. Or it came off. Mines just got a quick connect on it and it falls off sometimes while I'm driving. The top left dash light (forget which one that is) doesn't come on with the rest when you go to turn it on when this happens. Or I suppose it could be a bad starter.

Check the starter relay first then check the solenoid

I'd say starter, too.
Make sure the starter ground cable is grounded if you have one & trace the red wire from the starter to the battery/block and make sure it is secure.

Starter motor ain't really cheap (85-90 bucks) but they swap out easy.

Turn your headlights on and try to start.
If the lights dim significantly or go out it's the battery.
If they don't dim at all it's the starter.

Have you tried to jump the starter at the solenoid?

simple test while the key is on the on position go to your hood with either 10 or 12 gauge wire and connect one end to the postive and the other end to the starter its the littlest bolt on there wire should be green and put it there momentairly if it just clicks you need a starter if it cranks then check for voltage between startor and igintion wire.if you receiving voltage to the startor and still doesnt start only when you jump it you need a startor or a soilenoid

Check this out. It's for a 95 but I'm sure it's the same as a 94.

Not sure why the link doesn't work but if you go to the thread titled "just trying to help" I have a link there that seems to work, for me anyway. If it doesn't work let me know I can give you the address to copy into your browser.
