95 2.5 no start sometimes help

I have a 1995 2.5 manual , new to me , bought with no ecm and ckposition sensor. installed fired up ran 20 miles, next day hard start, noticed a clicking under hood, the fuel pump relay, cranks and starts. today I notice while cranking there is no check engine light. cranks no start, bypass fuel pump relay still no start. I suspect ground but open to all suggestions thanks

Normally if you have no check engine light when you turn the key to start the vehicle, the computer is shot.

a little more info may help

so I have checked fuses, and simple stuff. I cleaned the body ground on fire wall. my battery is worn down from cranking if I crank on battery alone the check eng light flashes 2x, brake light flashes as long as you crank. jump with my f250 7.3 and #2 wire jumper cables cranks fine but no check eng light flash. is there a ground someplace I should check. don't know what to check next

I'm having the same exact problem with my 2.5. I don't even bother trying to turn it over until I hear the relay clicking and the cel come on. if I turn the key on and leave it on for a few minutes, when I come back to it, it fires right up. I started by putting a new relay in it, no luck, cleaned all the grounds, no luck. Starter ended up goin so I replaced that along with a new battery, no luck. I was thinking computer but #slam said he did. #slam did you ever figure it out?
