my pump has been a little louder lately. how was the install? ive heard of guys cutting an access panel in the rear floor to get to the pump without dropping the tank.
Removing the tank was a little tricky, especially if its never been removed. The clamps at the filler neck were impossible so I just unbolted the whole filler assembly and pulled the tank out side ways. Didn't help I had over 7gals of fuel either. I cleaned out the tank cause I had dirt and metal all in it. I couldn't believe how dirty it was... Well I guess I could believe it lol. I haven't started the tank reinstall yet cause I'm gonna cut the access panel tomorrow while the tanks out. Should be fun
I order the whole fuel sender unit from eBay for 110$. After I cut the access panel, I'll temp install the tank to check it to make sure it's operational.
It's really not necessary to change the entire assembly if the float and sending unit is working ok...just replace the pump itself for less than half the cost..
Temp installed the fuel tank before I cut my access panel, man the new pump is so nice... Fixed my problem I've been having for 3 months now... No more shuttering on highway, loss of power, and low idle... Wish I would of just changed out the pump before I started throwing other parts at it... So much money spent to know that it was the dreaded fuel pump
Here's it temp installed to check for leaks and making sure it was working correctly
Well I finished the install, and I have a Problem.... When the tank was temp installed on the ground, it was working perfect, no low idle (like it has been doing) no bogging. I fully installed it today and cranked it up, and it idles low and bogs like I stated. Why would it not do this on the ground temp installed? And now that it's fully installed its doing this?
All I had hooked up wen it was temp'd was the fuel lines, connector, and the long vent line (passenger side).
Was thinking it was the left vent line so I opened my new handy access panel I cut out and unplugged the left vent line, still idling low and bogging....
I'll check tomorrow and see if any fuel lines got smashed when I raised it up but I'm pretty sure they didn't
Will a vent problem from the tank cause it to idle so low?
Yes....disconnect the fuel line on the inlet side of the filter and turn the key to on position....should get a strong fuel flow if pump is ok....be sure to position a catch pan under the line
My new pump made the world of difference. It accelerated up hills and against winds about no less than 65. Before I was lucky to get 55.
Plus I cut the access panel above my tank while it was out. After I installed the tank, I used that panel a few times because I had a fuel line pin hole leak. So it made changing out the lines so easy.
