95 transmission trouble

I have an 88 yj with the 4.2 in it.Its a parts jeep. I recently picked up a 95 yj with the 2.5 in it.The transmission is making a lot of wierd noises in 5th gear.Does anybody know if I can take the trans out of my 88 and put in my 95? would it bolt up? Can I change bell housing? There both 5 speeds. Is there any way to do it? Thanks for any help.

I don't know whether you can, but you don't want to. The 4 banger had the AX-5 transmission. The AX-5 is a weak transmission.

alright my little jeepets, listen up, the 88 has a peugot tranny, the ba-10 witch is trash just like the ax5. they are both different in alot of ways other than just teh bell housing bolt pattern. out put shafts are different, i am gonna go out on a limb here and say the 95 ax5 has an external slave cylinder versus the ba10s internal, length is different, and it may have the np201 tcase i am not sure. but no there are not compatible find a junkyard replacement

thats no way to look at it, the glass is neither half empty nor half full, THE GLASS IS JUST THE WRONG SIZE!!!! you can make anything work, read and investigate, do something radical, swap trannys and engine, make something work. go out to walmart and buy some cheap tools and tear into it. you can't mess anything up anyway, its already broke, hell jeeps come from the factory broke. make us proud joey!!!!! hahahahahah
