Cool cool, the rear should be a match to the front, from the same vehicle (width)..? Or will an 8.8 work..?

Well.....

An explorer 8.8 is way narrower than what's considered full width. I like to match a 10.25 to a 60 front and that way your 8 lug on both ends.

So before you know it your gonna have a grand wrapped up into something that is far inferior to a 1 ton axle. To make it even in the ballpark as strong, your gonna to throw another 500-1000 at it. See where I am going? If you do some searching you can find a 60 front for 1000-1500 depending on whats been done to it, etc. YJ's drive so good with full width axles in them too.

I know what you mean (can see that in your user ID "Ibuildembig"), but that will involve a lot of fabrication. You will ended up with a nice ROCK CRAWLER capable vehicle, great. Those axles I got are 4.56 gears and for my application I think they are good enough right now. I think the Rocky Road High Steer and steering components are good for $499. Currie, Teraflex and other vendors sell just the tie rod systems for $400 and change unless you decide to DIY from a vendor like RUFFSTUFF it will be a lot cheaper (about $155.00) including the DOM tubing). I have limitations, do not have space to work, depend on mechanics and many of them over here are only "PART CHANGERS", they are afraid to fab and the ones that do fab charge an "arm and a leg". So I think I will do Rocky Road for now.
Thanks a lot for you comments

No problem at all....but on a side note, swapping in a 60 front is just as easy as swapping out your knuckles

For future reference in case you change your mind

I am pretty new to the jeep world. So what does SOA stand for?

I'm on this thread everyday, reading and rereading trying to come up eith the best solution for me . I went ahead and got a dana35 with 4.10's and have scheduled a pickup for an 8.8 . Then I got to the issue of high steer . Yes this going to be an issue for me due to the fact my intent it to use the rubicon lift with 1.5 springs .

My question is how much wider than stock is a dana 60? In my neck of the woods the fuzz likes to write repair orders for guys whos tires are too far from the body ?

Wider fender flares or tube fenders will take care of that.

So here is a question. I got 6" flares all around. If I swap in a D60 will I need to change anything else to stay legal? I am considering adding a pair of 60's to my V8 upgrade next year.

Also, maybe you have heard this.... Are there any places an SOA is illegal? I was told in NJ they are, but it is only hearsay. I live in PA and will never move to NJ, but I figured maybe you have heard about some of these laws since you do SOA's regularly.

Depending on what your law says, its possible to keep um under the jeep....or appearing to lol. You can get a super offset wheel that will help too. I can measure mine and see how far you would be off with your flares if you want me to.

As far as SOA being illegal, that's the first time I have heard of that....but no law surprises me anymore. I wouldn't think they could enforce it though since every 4x4 pickup truck since the 50's has the springs on top.....and who's to say anyone would know the difference?

Yeah. Knowing the difference is rare in the city where i am. What i heard is it is only legal if the axles were designed to go under the spring. If you modify it its not street legal. I am already soa and am never going back to sua. Just wasnt surr if you heard of it. As far as the d60 i am noy sure what you mean with the offset. You mean rims to reduce backspacing and bring the tires in?

See that doesnt make any sense to me since an axle can go either way and isnt designed to have the springs any certain way. If it indeed was an issue, all a guy would have to do is cut off the factory lower perches and smooth out a few things. I know for sure I could do a set that they wouldn't be able to tell they hadnt been made that way.

Yeah for instance a H1 hummer wheel will have a stupid huge offset something like 6 inches if I remember right. I tried a set about 13 years ago but they hit the steering knuckle....but if you highsteer both the draglink and tierod, that will never be an issue.

Ha... L.O.L...!!

Hey Big, I think it might just be smarter for me to hold out on the 44's from the '75 Chief, and just do a 60/10.25 swap... It just seems to be a better idea in the long run, as far as ease of the swap itself, and 8 lugs would look cooler pullin' me outta' the mud, there are some really cool wheels out there for that pattern..!

*** SO... if anybody needs a 1975 Chief around the Minnesota area, send me a p.m... and I'll see what I can do...

You know speaking of this kit my steering wheel refuses to stay center. Anyone know why? If i park next to a curb and turn into it on a hill it is enough to knock it 1/4 turn off.

If you can fab parts your must have list includes:

perches (made or bought)
transfercase drop (if not using SYE)
Shock extentions
pitman arm
longer driveshaft in rear only
longer brake lines (or make new mounts)
