95 yj wont start/no spark

I have a 95 4.0 wrangler. I was bringing my daughter home from school when my jeep lost all power/died. Upon towing it home and trying to fix it I noticed I had no spark. I looked at my coil and coil wire, the coil wire was fouled on one end so I replaced the coil and the wire, still no spark. I then checked the distributor, the top end cap, and all look fine no scorching or anything out of the norm. I then thought well maybe the TPS went out so I changed it as well, still no spark. So, could it be the Ignition Control module?? If so, where is the ICM located?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is a very common issue, usually an easy fix.

The most common reason this happens is CKS failure Crankshaft Position Sensor. Located on the drivers side upper bell housing. It plugs into a spot near the valve cover (firewall side). 10-20 minute job.

I had no code when mine went out.

CKS was $60 at autozone, $20 on amozon, some guys say to use a mopar part swap. Maybe someone can give the part number.

Other Issues that cause this are, bad engine ground, bad coil, bad pick-up coil (aka CPS Camshaft Position Sensor) located in the distributor.

I would replace the cap and rotor. They don't always burn up, they'll just wear out to the point where they no longer make contact. For the price, its worth a shot for sure.

To find the culprit in my Jeep, my friend used a volt meter to test resistance of everything from the auto shutdown relay to grounds and the common item that kept coming low was the coil. If it is the camshaft position sensor, it looks like you will be investing in a new distributor since the sensor is part of the unit. I was unable to locate a parts supplier who had just the sensor itself. Good luck and keep a positive attitude since it is most commonly an easy fix.

Thanks for all your help folks, I'll start replacing one part at a time finishing with the CPS. I really appreciate all the advice and help, but what else would you expect from Jeep people. Thanks again, Mark.

Well it was the Crankshaft Position Sensor!!!! Changed it out and my green baby started right up. Thanks to all you folks for the wonderful advice/tips. I am truly greatful to have a sight where the people are so awsome in helping a backyard bolt breaker like myself. Thanks again, Sincerely Mark.

Also check the auto shutdown relay. The horn relay is the same one, so swap it and see if it will fire. It happened to mine once. Drive it to dinner, got in to go home and it wouldn't start. Had it towed home. Took me a day to find the problem.

Edit. Saw the end result. Glad you found it. Guess keep my experiences in mind.

My 95 wont start. please help

I just drove my jeep to get some lunch, came back out to go back to work and now it wont start. IDK whats wrong. I tried jumping it but my battery is fine. I dont know what else to do and I really dont want to bring it to a shop. Im trying to learn more about Jeeps and vehicles in general. Please help. thanks alot.

I have the same no spark problem. did the coil, crank sensor, cam sensor in the distributor and checked all fuses etc. no spark coming from coil when I check it but there is power to the coil. power comes from the grey wire which is opposite of what I've read. the only difference I see from what everyone else says is that my check engine light comes on when I turn the key on and never goes off. tried the ignition on off on off on thing and the light does nothing but stay solid. anyone?
