97 TJ 2.5 in 95 YJ?

The motor in my 95 YJ is trashed.
I found a 97 TJ 2.5 for a really good price.
Can I simply take the old motor out of my YJ and put the 97 2.5
in. Both the 97 and the 95 have the AX-15 transmission.
My jeep previously had the 2.5 and I would prefer to keep it that way

Any advise on this subject would be much appreciated.

OBD stands for On Board Diagnostics. The 95 has OBD1 and the 97 is OBD2, so therefore they aren't compatible since the sensors are different for each. What you can do is use all of the external components for the 95's motor along with all of the sensors and install them into the 97 motor. The actual motor itself is the same, Just the sensors and how they are read are different.

The only time it seems to make a difference here in nj is when you go for inspection. Obd 2 they can plug into, obd 1 they go through a whole ordeal with a fan and tailpipe sniffer. Just a guess but you may be able to get away with more fun stuff as long as emissions stay in spec. And i would imagine that Chrysler kept a lot of things the same as to save a couple bucks so i can not see why keeping your old harness and sensors should be a problem.
