97 wrangler need help

I just purchased a 97 wrangler 4 cylinder five speed that has problems it gets horrible gas mileage and i have a check engine light on with codes 12 and 24 coming up it seems to be missing and does not have enough power to get over about 40 miles per hour on flat ground i have had a couple people tell me that it might be in limp home mode and i have no idea what that is or how to correct it

please help

have you checked the regular stuff? Spark plugs, spark wires, distributor, battery, ignition coil?

Code 12 is no big deal. It just means that your battery has been disconnected recently. If you haven't disconnected it on purpose, check your connections. 24 is related to the TPS. A vast majority of the time I've seen this is because you've gotten something wet that shouldn't be. Check your intake to make sure it's tight, possible plug wires or dist cap. That limp mode should go away after a PCM reset if you make sure everything is dry and tightened up. Just helped a friend out with the exact same problem the other day.

I had to change TPS for code 24. In my case the symptom was this: I had a gap in throttle (very weak acceleration) when accelerating till about 2k RPM and then it felt like I had a kick in the ass and started going like I floored it.
