So now I am working on the little things on my jeep and I have been trying to fix my a/c compressor. The guy who owned the jeep before me took a ground terminal and attached it to a wire that is suppose to be hot. There is an orange wire that is suppose to get juice and power the compressor but its not getting anything from the relay. The compressor works because I tested it with a 3m connector straight to the battery. The wire very quickly got to hot indicating that is why there are fusible links in the wiring of the compressor. Can anybody help me with this? I have pictures if you need them
The test wire should not have gotten hot unless it was a small gauge, all that does is engage the clutch. Check out the relays and trace the wire back, have you checked all the fuses?
Well I figured it out. So when you turn the a/c switch on, power goes to a wire connected to the condenser. The condenser has a sensor that indicates how much freon is in it. If there is enough pressure in the condenser it will close the switch sending power to the relay. The relay then sends power to the orange wire going into the compressor. I'm guessing that wire with the diode was some sort of bubble gummed way to fix it. The previous owner probably didn't know too much about it and tried to fix it himself.
