Aftermarket radio and speakers wont work

I put some new speakers and an aftermarket radio in my Wrangler and the radio will power on but sound wont come out of the speakers. I just wired the speakers into the wires in the back of the radio. Any ideas to the problem?

did you run all new wires to the speakers? is the head unit properly grounded? is the antenna attached? Did you check all the settings on the radio?

Yes I ran all new wires to the speaker and I have the head unit grounded to the negative battery post. that's where it was grounded to when I bought the jeep so I didn't change it but its the first radio install Ive attempted.

Do you have both power wires hooked up correctly? One to battery power (memory) and one to switched power.

In my experience the most common problem is the ground. In this case the odds of all the speakers being wired incorrectly is minimal. Check the head unit wiring (I am assuming you used a aftermarket wiring harness to hook into the factory harness?) red should be battery when key is "on", orange (or yellow) is battery "on all the time", and black is the ground. There may be a orange with white stripe for dash illumination. Blue should be remote turn on output for an amplifier. Even if your negative and positive are backwards to the speakers you should get some sound (however it will sound out of phase) if the ground is good. Also, check any fuses built into the head unit.

What radio did you take out,I have a 95 Dodge P/U when I changed the factory radio no sound called Best Buy back they ask if I hooked up the blue wire for the amp (I don't ) they said I have to in order for the amps on each speaker to work. Dodge uses an amp on each speaker and won't work with out. Best bet go buy wiring harness kit and hook up all wires from radio to it and then plug into factory harness that should fix your problems.
