Air Intake Modification

Ok so Hello again, new project:

I want to get rid of this big lug of an air box and simply put an air filter directly over the carb.

The only problem is all of the hoses that are pluged into it, I know that 2 of the control flaps for hot air intake and cold air intake and one of the hoses around back hooks up to the exhaust (but thats broken to it doesn't matter )

So is it ok to disconnect those hoses and leave them open, or plug them?

First of all, it depends on your emmissions laws in your state. The emmissions aren't as easily dealt with on a carbureted engine as with EFI. From the looks of your engine bay, it looks as though it is pretty stock. I see more problems changing it around if you are using it as a DD. With EFI, you can go with after market air cleaner set ups because there are normally only one or two hoses going into the air cleaner (pcv intake being the main one) and you can normally plum those in easily. With all of the flaps and actuators on your setup, you may be asking for tuning trouble by changing it around.

Maybe someone here more experienced with carbs can give you better advice, but that is how I see it.
