Cool Annoying Squeaky Belt !!!

I've had this problem since I got my car but it didn't really bother me because I thought if I replaced the worn drive belt it would stop, Basically when the car us cold and I turn on the ignition the belt will squeak for about 10 seconds and stop its loud enoughto wake up the neighbors and hard to sneak out of the house lol

My buddy said there could be a Load on the alternator or something (whatever that means) It has a brand new belt in it and still squeaks... Anyone know the answer to this?

i'd make sure the new belt is tight, a lot of times they need to be readjusted after a few days as the new belt seems to stretch a hair. it really just sounds like it needs to be tightened up, other than that, you need to take it off and make sure no pullies are bad. water pumps are common to have bearings go bad, idler pulley and so on.

oh yeah, check for fluids leaking onto belt also, power steering front seal can leak onto the belt, and the water pump can leak coolant on the belt causing squeaking.

Thats true I do think there is some antifreeze leaking from a hose that needs to go in tighter, but I thought that wouldnt matter since it just squeaks for like 10 sec I figure if it was because of the fluid it would squeak longer

what your buddy proably meant was if you have to much mods running that need juice they can cause a strain, on what not sure.but i rememeber when i had an elclispe i had a sound system and whenever i cranked up the volume really loud , that noise would come on and off like someone scraping their fingernails on the chalk board. But my mechanic tighten the belt and it kinda quiet down for a while.but your best bet is what everyone is saying does the noise start once you touch the any of the ac or heater knobs?

Check the alignment of your pulleys, my power steering was not inline with the other pulleys. I got the new belt & had to take the P/S brackets completely apart to get the new belt on. After I put it all back together, it was lined up much better.

Got it, but no, no mods here and the car only squeaks when I turn it on...not for long tho, then it never does it again unless i turn it off and back on again Im gonna have a mechanic tighten the belt for me

Getting back to this... I got the belt tightened and it did stop the squeaking when I started the car... it still squeaks at ramdom times but only like once a day... again at ramdom times so idk but tightening it did help

what brand belt? dayco and goodyear belts suck. gates are the way to go. and you checked for fluids leaking onto the belt right. you don't want the belt overtightened, but maybe it needs a hair more.

Had this problem myself...and just retighten it

im sure you know how to retighten it, but just to make sure...i learned the hard way haha. You have to loosen up the long bolt right behind the bracket. And once you get the best tightend up for what you think is good, start it back up, check it, and then go just another turn down on it again. that should take care of it. I have to do that once or twice every winter on mine.

I just grab ahold of my alternator with both hands and lean back while my little bro tightens the bolt up never had a problem, then again I am a big boy... so gravity is on my side in that little trick
