Aha! The Carter BBD worn throttle shaft strikes once again. One of the other common problems, aside from the idle pickup tube issue.

As far as I know, there is no easy fix for a worn throttle shaft. Well, at least parts to fix it aren't available in the standard rebuild kits. A carburetor specialty shop might be able to fix it.

I got a carb rebuild kit, but you're saying its pretty much screwed hmm?

That dampens my day a lot... I don't have the time to wait or $ to buy a new one right now since they are $300.

Ooookay.. So I went and rummaged around the junk yard for about 2 hours today and found 4 Motorcraft 2150 carburetors.. Two of them were 1.21, one was 1.23, and the last one I came upon was the perfect MC2150 1.08!!!

Ordered a master rebuild kit from O'Reilly. Should have it here tomorrow. Tonight I am going to take it apart and soak it in a can of carburetor cleaner.

Man... I wish you would've found two 1.08s... I can't find sh!t around here an no one has responded to my "want" ad for a week or two...

You're going to have to make yourself an adapter "bracket" for the throttle linkage, and get an adapter plate. Just tryin' to help out!

I am aware. I wish I could have found two 1.08's too! I will say that those were the only 4 carbs I found. All of the others had been robbed already.

Mr.Gasket makes an adapter plate, someone posted it, but I can't find it now to find the part number.

Making a small bracket for the linkage is no big deal. I just fabricated up some upper motor mount perches for a friends 95 Toyota Supra a couple of weeks ago.

Word... Whenever I've asked about Carb at yards they tell me "We don't have carbs"... Most of the places around here are "They pulls" though... Sucks...

It's like a "large barrel to small barrel" adapter plate or a "2 barrel Rochestor to 2 barrel Holley adapter"... At least that's what I have written down in my "Project notebook"

I've heard they sell The plate at some parts store such as Advance Auto as well. (Don't know if they have those down south or not. )

I know you've probably looked all of this up already... Just trying to help.

I sure hope it does. Bad news- 2 of the throttle blade screws broke off while trying to take it apart. Not sure what I'll do about those, but I will try to figure it out the best I can. Now I wish I hadn't have even messed with them.

Here is the adapter plate that is needed. It is a Mr. Gasket #1937

Sunday's update. Got the carburetor all back together, except the carb kit that Oreilly's ordered had the wrong accelerator pump in it. It will be Tuesday before they can get me the correct Accelerator pump. Waiting on the MG 1937 adapter plate kit to come in as well.

I also used this guide to rebuild a Autolite or Motorcraft 2100 or 2150 Carburetor from The Ranger Station:http://www.therangerstation.com/tech..._2150_carb.pdf

Started with this, off of a 1981 Mercury Cougar with a 4.2L v8:

The funniest part was that after soaking the parts in the carburetor cleaner I bought from Oreilly (the 1 gallon bucket), I figured the best way to really "steam clean" them was to throw them in the dishwasher. Needless to say, my fiance came home from the store and said " What the hell!? Why are there car parts in my dishwasher!?"

I have also baked headlights in the oven before. lol

It had the electronic on it currently, but I am seriously thinking about even simplifying that and putting a manual kit on it. Probably be for the best.

I agree. I want to try it, Shouldn't be much to it. But if it fails, then I'll go manual. However, I would prefer to "set it and forget it".

I have the 4.2 with nutter bypass , hei dizzy, motorcraft 2100 carb electric choke . I had to turn the choke spring around to get it to work right . my jeep is a 89 though.

Once my accelerater pump diaphragm comes in and I get it all mounted up, I'll see about the choke. Its the least of my worries right now. Lol

Finally, a positive update!!!



Seems to run pretty good right now. May need to adjust some things slightly.

Now I have re worked the throttle return spring, and also the throttle cable, It seems to be working pretty decently. Only things I think need adjusting may be a couple of settings in the carb, but I will see how it acts over the next few days. I just got back from a test drive, and wow, what a difference!

I am glad you posted all your videos. I am fighting the same idle problems on my YJ and am going to spray around the carb to check for leaks. I am starting to think it's time to move on to a 2100/2150. I wish we had a decent salvage yard in my area. I needed a harmonic balancer about two weeks ago and was quoted $85 at the salvage yard. I ordered a new one online for $55. What air cleaner are you going to run on the new setup?

The air cleaner I have is just a small 6 1/2" open element for now. I want to build a huvee style snorkel for it eventually.

Another update: I installed the CRT HEI Distributor last Saturday, along with plug wires, and new plugs.

Vacuum is 19'' of Hg, and timing at 10*BTDC. Seems to run great!

Still on first tank of gas since install, so I will figure fuel mileage when I fill up next. So far, very happy.
