Cool Another Clunking Noise.. I know, balls right?

I know there are a LOT of posts on this forum regarding strange periodic clunking noises which sounds like it is coming from the centre, or the back right of the chassis of Jeeps everywhere. I've gotten a couple of hints of how to hammer out this problem - but my Jeep specialist (I hope he gets paid more than a surgeon) told me to look out for the driveshaft breaking on me before this noise started.

However, due to my instantaneous love for this mechanic and his magic on my Jeep - I forgot to ask him what the warning signs of a driveshaft coming lose could be? Please put me at ease that this sound isn't a clunking noise.... a scratching noise would be fine!! =D There seems to be no pre-requisite for this clunking noise - but most often happens a low speeds, and when the Jeep is just warming up.

So definitely appreciated!

Its hard to diagnose without looking at it. Crawl under there and tell us what you see. Check your u-joints by taking your drive shaft and try to move it in all directions. If there is play get that joint replaced. It could be your clunking noise, but there might be other things causing the noise as well.

you can check the u-joints on the drive shaft by getting under the jeep and shaking it with your hand, their shouldnt be much play. It'll sound like Clunk clunk clunk. Idk how to explain it lol

But here is the good news.. ready..?

You guys are awesome! I already know my front u-joints have seen better days - but the recent weather of -40 doesnt make it very motivating to crawl under there and replace them. I didn't even think of the back ones! Little bit of a one track mind.... just shuddering about the sick idea of the driveshaft "falling out". Makes my heart drop just a little bit!

Thanks for all the advice!
