another kind of vacuum line problem.

Alright I have seen alot of vac. threads on jeep forums but none about what I need.

I have a 89 yj 4.2L with ? miles on it dont know but I know it is alot cost me $1100 from a guy that did nothing to fix it. he actually had no clue about the thing his friends told him for a toy drive it till it breaks then just fix it. Needless to say it is in less than favorable condition.

Among other problems I have major vacuum line probs. On the intake manifold about 6" infront of the carb is a thing sticking out of the manifold with 5 vac lines coming out of it 3 of which are plugged with bolts screwed in the hoses, does any body have any idea what I am talking about and if so what is it and where do the 5 lines go. Also what is the thing between the wheel well and the fire wall on the drivers side, it looks like a coffee can with 4 lines coming out of it on top (only one goes somewhere the rest dont make it past the top of the can before their ripped off).

Suprisingly it does run but like crap and it will still do like 80 mph. This is my first Jeep and I dont think I will ever make it street legal it is just a toy and I would like to fix all the bugs in it so it can start to get taller.

The "5 lines" thing is the CTO valve. Have a look here: Coolant Temperature Override Valve (CTO)

And the coffee can looking this is your Evap Canister. Look here: http://home.sprynet.com/~dale02/evaporat.htm

And better yet, take a look here. This site is a cornucopia of information: http://home.sprynet.com/~dale02/list.htm
