Another YJ has been stolen...

Well to make a long story made short, I've had a bad day. Been recovering from a surgery over the last few days, so needless to say there have been lots of pain killers being consumed. Last night I heard at least a dozen car alarms going off around our apartment complex, normaly I'm the first one up... but not this time, needless to say this morning after getting up, I look out the front window and "CRAP"... took the local cops 3 hours to send someone over. After checkin with other Jeep owners that live in the same complex, at least 5 were broken into last night... to make matters worse I was gonna put in a kill switch next week when I can move around a bit better... Oh did I mention that yesterday was my birthday?... Damn the luck.
So for anyone in the Albuquerque, NM area please keep an eye out... Its a Black 94 YJ, with a Black hard top, Slider half doors, on a RC 4" lift...

Sorry for your loss. I hate thieves.

It's strange...in my town 2 YJ's have been stolen. Car thieves notoriously steal Hondas and Toyotas...the coupes...for the last 20 years reliably.

Before you posted this I thought to myself yesterday that there's in increase in YJ thefts? Why?

It's not like they are going to possibly haul a** after they steal it...
And it's not like they are going to get something reliable with great gas mileage...

Again sorry man. Rash of YJ thefts. Why?

I have heard about drug runners buy stolen 4x4s to run drugs through the desert.

keep an eye on craigslist and ebay for any of your parts. They'll prob. try to sell the doors & hard top/rims first as they are easy to pull off.

That I didn't consider and you are probably right:

we own the only vehicles that probably part out at better $$$ than the whole thing combined...

I'd second this advice.

Hopefully you'll get the rig back or lead the cops to those that took it via the internet--quite likely.

That sucks.

That's one reason I keep a "Club" on my YJ when it sits outside or in storage.

^Clubs are useless against experienced thieves. All they have to do is freeze it with liquid nitrogen and smack it with a hammer- shatters into a thousand pieces. They can also pick them in 60 seconds or less.

Thieves often steal them and bring them to a chop shop, where they get stripped down in a matter of hours, and every single part gets sold off to separate junk yards throughout the counties. Your Jeep may be thousands of miles apart now

Damn, that sound like the voice of experience. How many Clubs have you shattered or picked? Do you have a favorite chop shop?

Clubs are meant to be a deterrent, not to prevent theft. Just like the flashing red light on my dash. The alarm won't stop them, but it might make them move on to the next vehicle.

If you have the VIN and reported it, if they don't remove the tag, cop will flag it. Otherwise, it might be stored in a garage.... just being honest. I hope it gets sorted out, man.

Having been a victim, and having read plenty of information about what happens from ex-thiefs, I'm pretty knowledgeable about it. It sucks, but instead of them seeing someones only mode of transportation around town for their job that's just BARELY allowing them to squeak by in life, the low life scum shit bags see dollar signs.

WE GOT IT BACK!!!
Just got done recovering my baby... A member of our church saw the YJ about a mile away, I beat the cops to her, by 20 minutes. Dude was stupid enough to try and get in while we were walkin up... he is now in jail, warrents out of Arizona for paroll violations for auto theft... HAHAHAHAHA
This was a good day
All in all, she's in one piece, hard top, center console, KC's, tool kit, compresor, mirrors and a bit more are all missing... but we can re-build her, we have the technology

Wow.. good for you that he was a dumb ass. A mile away and still driving it around 5-6 days later.. Don't get much stupider than that.

Glad you got her back bud. These success stories are not heard too often!!

Reminds me of a story my uncle told. He had an 89 toyota pickup stolen from him, that he had invested a lot of money into, made it look real nice. Some dirtbag broke into it, disabled the alarm and stole it. My uncle saw it going down the road a few days later, and chased the guy down. Just about beat him half to death. Back when laws were different.

Good to hear you got it back. Maybe the dirtbag has the parts lying around his neck of the swamp scum.

I would have detained him with a crowbar and some zip ties.
