Anti-drain back valve in the fuel pump??

Hey gang

My 87 Yj is running a recently installed fuel pump and a pre-feedback carburator. Jeep runs well and start well even with electric choke not currently hooked up. The problem is when the jeep sits for over 36 hours or so. Then it takes a LOT of cranking before it lights off.

It almost feels like whatever fuel is in the fuel line is draining back down the line, and now the pump has to refill everything before the engine will start.

any ideas??

Thanks!!!
Jake

try a one way check valve in the line to prevent drainage. put it in as close to the fuel pump as possible. just an idea.

Fuel is evaporating out of the carburator bowl, the only fix is too install an electric fuel pump and flip it on to fill the carb before you start after a long shutdown. If you go this route be sure not to get a pump that goes over 4-5 psi.

The anti drain back valve you are thinking of is only in vehicals with fuel injection, carbed ones never had it since they have a fuel bowl for start up fuel storage.

I can understand evaporating when the truck is hot, but how is fuel evaporating when the truck just sits without being run? If I start the truck every day, it starts instantly.

The fuel bowl holds maybe a half a cup of gas, the bowl is vented to the outside and isn't sealed up. Take a half cup of gas and set it on the work bench, come back in 36 hours and see how much is left.
