I just traded my motorcycle for a 1993 Jeep Wrangler. I know it needs some work on the rear diff. Supposedly the pinion gear. I brought it home on a flat bed so i did not do further damage to it. I have found at least one other problem. There is no sterring stabilizer on it. I would love to have someone who is familiar with YJs just look it over to see how big of a project I am in for. Not looking for a mechanic to fix it just someone who can tell me how deep i am in on the jeep before I am roadworthy.

Check frame and body panels for rot .Dont give up hope on frame their are patch pieces you can purchase and the same with body panels . Depending on how hard it has been driven you could be spending money on restoring . Check springs on suspension if they look flat and no arch you can be assured you will need new suspension or upgrade with lift kit. How high you go will dictate how much you will spend .Higher the more parts and more money.Should put stabilizer on it .

To be honest a steering stabilizer is not required, and sometimes masks other problems. When I did my 1 ton over the knuckle steering I ran with no stabilizer for months till I could fab a new bracket, and this was with 35" tires. First I would make sure all the steering and front end components are in good shape, especially the Tre's and ball joints. I don't care for rough country anything, I'd look at RE, BDS,or OME.

Update on yj

Got the ring and pinion replaced on my yj a while back. i love it and am now looking into replacing the leaf springs. I am thinking of going with 2" lift leaf springs. Are there other modifications that need to be done along with that (other than new shocks)?

Are you planning on getting a lift KIT?
They usually have everything you need. The cheap ones sometimes leave out a few things like t-case drop, bump stop extensions and sway bar extensions.

If you get a complete kit, you should be golden. If you decide to scrimp, you can learn some lessons by personal experience.
