Argh rear main seal

So yesterday I dropped the oil pan, and replaced the rear main seal, and cleaned everything up.

This morning I have some oil drips from the backside of the clutch inspection plate. about 3 drops worth.

Seams to me like my rear main is still leaking....

No oil on the outside of the oil pan. I drove the jeep a bit yesterday after finishing the work, so it didn't just sit after the repair was done. I did torque the rear main cap down to 80 ft lbs as the manual states.

I did put anearobic rtv on the rear cap, started to install it, but then had to remove it as I wanted to make sure I put some oil on the bearing...

I'm wondering if I didn't screw myself, as I didn't remove/reapply the anearobic sealer on the rear seal cap when I did this.

Thoughts?

I don't know how much you cleaned out the old oil from the bell housing area, but quite a bit of oil will sit in the starter cavity and around the flywheel area. The drops you see may be residual and go away after a few days. Sounds like you did all else correctly.

I didn't clean the bell housing at all... I was considering it might be residual... keeping my fingers crossed that it is. And I did have the jeep tilted pretty far back during the repair to give me room to work, so having it back level, may also be contributing to residual showing up... Also I did read somewhere that the seals will expand a bit, so perhaps there is some of that going on as well.

If figured I'd keep an eye on it for a week or so, and see if it goes away.

Drove it a bit yesterday after posting.... She sat overnight.. so about 20 hours, this morning Zero drips... Looks like I was freaking a bit early... right now certainly thinking it was residual
