ax-5 shifting problems

i have a 94 yj with the ax-5. when i drive it i have to pull it into second and third. down shifting is the same except when i down shift into first it grinds really bad. a friend of mine said it could just be because i need to bleed the clutch. so im going to bleed it over the weekend when i have time. anybody else know what this could be? i need to figure it out cause its a pain to drive!

Could be a worn clutch, could need bleeding, but keep in mind that down shifting to 1st gear is harder to do the faster you are going. These trans are not muncies by any means.
