I pulled the input shaft cover off my AX 5 and noted the bearing was loose causing the shafts to seperate a distance til fifth gear shed its teeth. If that lite duty trans can't live behind a 105 hp 4 cylinder there is no sense spending any more time or money on it. I opted for a low mileage 92 4.0 drive train to transplant into the frame rails. In the package I bought the engine, trans, t/c, gas tank, axles, drive shafts, radiator, transmission mounting plate, leaf springs and they threw in a beautiful grey hardtop that looks like a garage queen.
I will have two 2.5 motors, ( one rebuilt the former owner was going to install ), one t/c, and a good AX 5 transmission case that will be in the for sale pages after the installation of the 4.0 ( rebuilders have a 350 core charge for a case so there must be some value there besides aluminum price. )
