ax5 pops out of 5th after rebuild!

Hello, I am in need of some advice. The truck is a 93, 2.5 running 31x10.5x15s. It doesn't have a body lift or anything like that. Stock except for the tires. I recently rebuilt the Ax-5 that lost the input shaft bearing, causing damage to the input shaft gear as well. It got a new input shaft, cluster gear shaft, and new bearings, etc. I was driving it, and for no apparent reason, IE hitting bumps, etc, it popped out of 5th gear. I went to put it back in, and it didn't want to go, it didn't want to go back in 4th either, so with my foot on the clutch, i was able to put it in 3rd and then back to 5th. It shifts great otherwise and 5th doesn't appear any different, until it pops out. on 2 seperate trips, totally 25-30 miles, it happened once to me, but the owner of the truck said it happened more to him.

I'm dreading pulling the trans back out, but I also need to have an idea on what i'm looking for. If anyone out there can give me an idea, that would be great. I'm relatively new to jeeps and to rebuilding trans, esp ax-5s.

Thanks
Adam Friday

welcome to the forum. i do know that fifth gear likes to move off the back of the shaft. lots of problems with fifth. they also get bogged down a lot with that engine and combo, cruising in fifth at slower speeds around 45 will tear it up.

good luck, let us know.
