Axle Problems :x

Okay, I got my 1990 checked out the other day because it the rear tires were both wearing terribly fast on the inside half of the tread while the outside half is remaining perfectly new. I had a free alignment check done and the man said that my fronts were almost spot on, (they are wearing perfect and evenly) and the back has a slight "toe" caused by the axle being slightly bent. So he made some calls and apparently no one he knows can really fix this sort of thing.. I was wondering what you guys thought should be my next step? I dont know an awful lot about axles so Im coming to my jeep wrangler forum friends for help on this one. I didnt know if I should just buy another dana 35 for 100 on craigslist and if I can somehow put the 4.10s in that axle or what. Just help or ellaborate for me if you can.. Thanks a lot! Its a 2.5l, 5spd manual, 4inch rc lift and 33s btw.

The simple solution would be to just swap in another 4.10 gears rear dana 35 and be on your way... OR you could swap in a better axle such as a ford 8.8 or dana 44. Just depends how much you can afford to spend. The ford 8.8 is what many of us run, in general cheap to find at a junk yard (95ish to 2000ish explorers and mountainers have them) can be found with 4.10 gears etc, also will give you disc brakes.. just have to add bracket kit and of course update or replace any worn parts on the junk axle.. Also with your being a 1990 model you may need to upgrade the brake system a bit components a bit.

Well, being on a tight budget.. what would u suggest? i found a Dana 35 for 100 on craigslist but it had 3.55s? or 3.73 or something in it. idk what to do lol. And I really cant afford too much.. what do u think? If i find a dana 44 or dana 35 with 4.10 gears would it be an easy swap? just take it out and swap it in and be on my merry way? lol.

Cheapest and easiest is to find a junk yard D35 with 4.10 gears. If you choose to put your 4.10 gears in make sure you find a used with at least 3.73 gears as that is the right size carrier.

The YJ dana 35 will just bolt right in.. any other axle will need some fab work... If its your daily driver I say get what ever the best deal you can on a dana 35 and run it until you can save up to swap it to a better axle. Just keep in mind if the gears don't match you can't use 4wd. If its a trail fun jeep and you don't need it to get to work school.. then let it sit, save for a few months and consider a ford 8.8 swap.
