axle, transmission fluids

I have a 93 4.0L that I have own for 10 yrs. Reliable, never
had any issues with it, and from time to time it comes to
my mind that the fluids under my feet never have been change.
I heard horrible stories about if the fluids are drain or change
the rig might start having problems. Not so sure if this is just
a legend(hope it is)or a true fact..
Any advise.?

the only time ive ever heard of a late changing wreaking havoc is on an auto tranny if you do the "flush" b/c it stirs everything up. on a manual tranny and differential id do it. on an auto id drop the pan and filter and refill.

if you havent done it yet, ppl say dont because shit will start to leak...after all the years, all the little seals and gaskets get worn done and pits and what not develop, and the old fluid clogs the holes...when u flush and or replace with clean fluid and what not the seals /gaskets are no longer sorta "plugged" with the old fluid that you could have some leaks and what have you develop that wont stop.... thats the idea behind it.
