axles?

ok for starters my frame on my 91 is bad. I intend on getting a good frame having it cleaned sanded painted and then ryno coating it. I am hearing the 4cy and 6 cyl ones are different is this true? mine is a 4 cyl. I also was thinking considering the work thats going to havto be done now might not be a bad time to swap in a nice set of axles. I have a set of 1 ton axles that has 4:10 gears already in them out of a 79 chevy i have. I was wondering if i could swap these under my jeep? I know they are a little longer but by my measurements only by 3 or 4 inches in total so maybe 1.5 or i think at most 2 inches per side so not so bad. Is what im concerned with is spring/shock hookup (i figure shock and spring mounts would havta be moved of course) but mostly driveshaft hookup especially the front (i looked and i think the stock yj front pumpkin is more on drivrs side and the chevy is more pass side so i think it wont work verry well) If i do get these axles under the jeep can i use the chevy drivetrain axles, tranny, transfer case, motor swap to make this work? i realize new driveshafts would have to be made to do this. I have this truck witch has a sweet cab/ body but no motor and was thinking to use what i can on my jeep and then selling the cab/body to help fund this. I also have myself a nice set of mickey thompson chrome 16x10 rims to fit these axles. so what do you guys think? I am halfway seriously considering this. the downside is while this gets done im w/o a vehicle and kinda low on $ at the moment. as far as the motor goes a have a chevy 454 thats in need of a rebuild i have sitting in the garage i have most of the stuff to do the rebuild just need the pistons, rods, bearings and gasket kit. most v8 swaps i hear of in jeeps are small blocks will a big block not work? i could put in a small block until the 454 gets completed just wondering if all this is possable or just wishfull thinking. I really think this isnt going to work for one reason or another but if it can work even if i havta wait a bit to get it done this way i might consider it rather then fixing up the chevy or selling it as whole i have had numerous offers for this truck and i cant see letting it sit for much longer.

Anything will work if you want it to bad enough. Using the whole drivetrain from the Chevy will solve the problem of having the T-case drop on the wrong side. This will definately be a huge project, but it would be a great Jeep when you are done. I don't know about being your only vehicle at this point. You need to get yourself a beater.

yeah i hear ya there on the beater car. I was figuring with a bit of fab work it would be doable. i was thinking mostly would need spring and shock mounts moved on the axles to match the springs and shocks on the jeep. the only thing that bothers me is my chevy is an auto and my jeep is standard 5 speed. Id rather keep it a standard. I was kinda hoping to hear from someone who has done something similar to get an idea of what i need to get this done and how hard it really is. The more i think of it the more i think my best bet is to leave it alone. I dont do any off roading so its not like i need the stronger axles i just think it woulda been neat and like i said i had them avail with nice chrome rims.
