best 2.5" lift??

Looking for a flexy, 2.5-3 inch suspension lift? Budget is around 700 to 800, leaning towards Rubicon express right now, opinions??

RE is good, also check out old man emu and BDS. I've had my BDS for over 5 years with no problems. old man emu seems to be the best riding springs.

Yeah I was thinking about bds but it seems a little pricey, ill have to check out the ome though

^^I second that.

If you're gonna wheel it hard and might break or bend the springs, BDS has you covered with their Unlimited Lifetime warranty. Their springs are reported to ride pretty well too. The thing about the BDS kits is that they cover are the basic essentials to get you on the road (except the possible SYE conversion). Adds to the cost, but it's sort of a one stop shop.

If you want a plush ride for the street, I can vouch for OME. I am running their full suspension (springs, shocks, shackles), no track bars, with swaybar disconnects. OME shackles are beefy but kinda overpriced though - you can get the same shackle lift for less. Their shocks are pricey as well, but are considered the softest riding out there and do pair well with their springs. OME "kits" are generally just springs and bushings, but there is much more involved to a lift than just that.

The thing that steered me toward re though from bds is that re also has a lifetime warranty and it seems to include wayyy more in the kit for slightly less money

I heard that the rear shocks that come with the RE kit sometimes come in contact with the rear axle thus requiring an adapter that does not automatically come with the kit. I have the Zone kit on my YJ and have no complaints so far.

I heard that too, but I could just run them upside down or upgrade to monotubes

or just get the shock relocation brackets. whats $30 when your spending $750 on the lift? www.4wheelonline.com has it cheapest of anywhere and shipped free.

Any opinions on the rustys kit? I don't know anything about them but I've heard good things about their springs, and they look identical to the re half wrap style

I nearly went with BDS but they only offered a 2" or 3.5" lift, and I wanted 3" of lift in total with springs and shackles. Having already dealt with 1.25" shackles, I didn't want 1" shackles, and 3.5" was too much for my 31" tires. It was a Goldilocks scenario - not enough, too much, just right. I am happy with my choice though, as the OME suspension makes my YJ ride pretty damn close to a 1996 Cadillac SeVille and I daily drive my Jeep. Should I ever go the route of wheeling heavy though, I'll swap in BDS leafs for their warranty.

Either way, I don't think you can go wrong with BDS, RE or OME. All are highly regarded. Choose what's best for you.

My buddy put a rustys on his Jeep and loved it.. Said he wouldn't go any other way. Turns out he got the wrong part in the kit, no questions asked they sent the right one (can't remember what part but it was small) next day air to him.

I've got a skyjacker on my YJ and its been perfect for me, install was pretty bad, needed to modify a few things but I have had 0 problems from it over about 6 years.

I purchased my 2" Zone kit from one of the forum sponsors for $450 plus discounted shipping. However, if I could have afforded it I would have went with an OME kit. I never read one negative review about OME and that says a lot.

I have had RE lift for some time now and love it but when installing it i called them and the ABSOLUTELY DO NOT run shock upside down do to possible loss of oil that you could get the bracket or if they did become dented somewhat while flexing that it would be ok do to the airspace built into the housing,not what you expect to hear when you spend 750.00 but i have been happy with it.

I'm about to get a 2.5" as well. I've done a lot of research and the names I keep coming back to are rubicon express and OME, so I'm sure I'll land with one of those 2. Do any of you guys know if you can run 33's with a 2.5" lift? I'm running 31's right now but would like the options of slapping some 33's on after they wear out.

From my research (not first hand experience), To run 33's you will need a 4" lift OR a 2.5" lift + some combination of shackle lift, 1" body lift, TJ or aftermarket flares + wheel well cutting. May also depend on the the weight in your Jeep... So definitely doable with the 2.5" lift.

I'd recommend that you just go to a 4" lift initially, but that likely requires another $500 expense for a SYE/Driveshaft.

Since I have a 2.5L in my Jeep, I've decided that 31's will be my max tire size, and a 2.5" lift will be adequate. That is just to reduce cost of SYE, Axle swaps, Gear Changes, etc. If I ever want to run 33s or 35s, I'll get a different Jeep with a 6 cyl and stronger axles.

Lol good to know, I think I'm gonna upgrade to monotubes they're skinny so they should clear without brackets correct?

That's a great point. I'm happy with my 31's now, so that may be great thinking to stay within what your motor is capable of...

Don't forget to factor the in the possible cost of SYE and CV driveshaft if you find yourself unable to eliminate vibes with shims and t-case drops. Unlikely with less than 4" of lift, but some people have run into vibes with 2" lifts that they couldn't rid until they went SYE. Just food for thought.

It would be nice if OME suspension kits were packaged in a one stop shop kit with everything you need, as it would save some people time. But if you know what you are doing, you can piece together that parts your needs and source any brand you desire at the price that suits you.

You will need to add a few items...Here is my set-up:
RE 2.5 lift kit, 1 inch over stock shackes (straight up front, booms in back), RE sway bar disconnects, t-case drop, degree shims...almost all of this came with my kit.

Things I did different were ditching the brake line relocations and using extended stainless braided brake lines, front and back and bushwacker flat flares, and 1 inch Daystar body lift. I'm running 33's with no problems, but total lift on my YJ is about 4.25 inches after settling in the springs. I've had the lift 3 years and have been totally happy.

My BDS kit went on easy and rides great. It came with everything needed except the shackles for the rear, which I have gone a month and a half without. The rear shocks did tap the axle a bit but a hammer fixed the brackets right up. I would do this kit again just because of the parts quality and ride.

I'm very happy with my now 2 month old BDS set up. It's settling in and is a very good ride over rough and on the street. It sits way above 2" initially. I've had lots of compliments on the stance. I can't complain.
