Best oil and Filter for Phoenix in the summertime.

I recently purchased my first Jeep an 87 YJ with a 4.2L. I am about to do my first oil change and would like recommendations for oil and filter. I read the other thread on oil and filters but while some mentioned using different oil in the winter, no one touched upon what kind of oil and filter I should use in an environment like Phoenix where my temperatures will soon be breaking 100 degrees and will have days where we break 120. Does it matter?

I just put in royal purple 10W-30 and a purolator pure one oil filter, the royal purple is full synthetic so it should work pretty well if it gets real hot out

I know this is an old thread but I haven't been able to find a Royal Purple filter that fits my 4.2. ('89 YJ 4.2).

I used a Fram in a pinch because I couldn't find a Royal Purple that fit. If you have one, lemme know which one it is.

I have 5 qts of royal purple sitting in the garage right now and will put it in in the next week or so. I just rebuilt the engine and have about 800 miles on the break in oil. Royal Purple came highly recommended by a local jeep motor mount manufacturer that has been building YJ's for quite awhile.

Thanks for the input from a fellow resident of AZ. Royal Purple is one the final contenders, for my oil change next month.

Well, royal purple OIL for sure. No question.

But I was asking about the filter. Looks like that one guy said he uses Royal Purple filters too and I haven't had any luck finding RP filters that fit my 4.2.

I just did another oil change and this is the second consecutive time I used royal purple 10w-30 and a K and N hp-2007 filter and it runs better than I expected, I really noticed a big difference now that royal purple has been run through once already.

I always use Fram and Pennzoil. 10w30. Have in Phx for 10 years on my jeeps. But hey, I'm always willing to try something new.

This Time around I still used the Wix filter like I did last time, but this time I went with Rotella 15w-40 instead of Castrol high mileage 10w-30. I am one week into the experiment and so far the engine runs smoother, is a LOT quieter and the small oil leaks that started after my last oil change have ceased. I am a very happy camper so far.
