Body Lift

I have an 89 sahara and would like to install a 3" body lift. Anyone have any suggestions or tips. How hard is it to do ? any special tools or tricks? How long did it take to install? Thanks for the help

Its not hard to do, but a 3" body lift is going to cause a lot of problems. Everyone on here would recommend 1.25".... 2" at the most.

I would not do a body lift over 1 to 1.25.
There are a lot of probloms when you go over that.
1. Fuel lines
2. AC lines
3. Cooling hose and rad
4. Shift cables or linkage
They all have to change when you do a body lift over 1 to 1.25.
Thats why we dont make one over a 1' body lift.

A 3" will also put a lot of stress on the tub of your jeep.

you may want to look into a 2" budget boost and a 1 inch body lift. that may give you the lok.performance you want.

Antwon, you're responding in the YJ section.....Coil spacers aren't going to work on the leaf springs.

How about a 2" add-a-leaf kit?

It's a lot cheaper than a whole set of springs.

I'm thinking of doing this. Any issues. It will be mildly wheeled. Nothing crazy.

The only problem with add-a-leafs is that they put unwanted stress inside the original leaf pack and they don't last very long. Best bet is to spend the money and get full leaf packs.

I put a 2 inch shackle lift on mine and love it. Also in doing this you replace the stock shackles with heavy duty ones and it's a small upgrade. Not that I have experience, I have heard that the body lift gives a jeep a higher center of gravity therefore making more prone to roll.

There are small lift kits out there for the YJ, but in my opinion they are a waste of money. They cost just as much as a 4" lift but you only get half the lift. I would either go with a small body lift and the 2" lift shackles or save your pennies for a real lift. Remember, the 2" shackle lift will net you 1" of lift and you should look at new shocks soon because you just streched them out another inch and there isn't going to be much travel left in them.
