Bogging Out, Backfire, Afterfire...

91 Wrangler S 4 Cyl 2.5 manual

While driving my Jeep it has been cutting out/bogging out. Normally around 2500/3000 rpm can barely make it up hills at times and it cuts out when accelerating. When it starts to cut out the JEEP REEKS OF STRONG GAS ODOR. I can not cope with driving like this, the mileage is poor too. I replaced Fuel Pump recently, Cleaned Fuel Injectors, Replaced 02 sensor before Cat, tightened dist cap, replace main vacuum hose. I was looking into replacing the Throttle Position Sensor however I misplaced my Haynes and cant figure out how to remove the TPS! This may not have anything to do with the problem but when I floor it/rev it up parked from the peddle it cuts out. When I rev it up by hand from the actual line by the TPS it does not cut out.

Any suggestions?

i have the exact same jeep with the exact same problem someone please help im thinking i could have dirty injectors or a fouled plug

do a tune up lately or maybe the sensor in the distrubtor is going bad test it

The tps is on the back side of the throttle body. Its held on by two torx bolts. Also, the distributor doesn't have anything in it on a 91. I'm lost by the whole running good when you control it by hand.

i got mine running well by replacing the fuel filter and plugs and then cleaning out the throttle body fyi never put champion plugs in a wrangler

"tightened the cap"

your symptoms are classic of a bad cap/rotor, that is if you've already replaced the spark plugs... Spark plugs and cap/rotor are made to wear out and be replaced.

Also, if you smell gas when it dies, there isn't any problems getting gas. Forget your fuel filter, pump, etc... and go after your spark.

I must ask, when was the last time you replaced the distributor cap and rotor as well as the spark plugs?
