That's a fair point about the insulation though. I think it's more my weak stereo than anything. There already is a sound bar in it. It's either the amp is not powerful enough or the speakers haven't enough wattage. Either way ill need to upgrade .

Just called up about insurance today. 280dollars a month I was quoted. Jesus that's expensive.
I think it's because I'm Irish and I'm only living in Canada 4 months now. Ill try shop around but I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and pay the high rate until i can get it down after time.
Yeah if you just immigrated to Canada recently, expect to pay more as they don't have proper background info on ya when it comes to insurance. I pay a little over 100$ a month BUT I've been driving for almost 20 years with insurance on a vehicle and out of those years 1 accident which I was not at fault (thank you mister 80 year old guy who should be taking the bus) and that covers everything including collision which is extra but I don't take chances. You get all the quotes you want BUT I doubt you'll get a better price. I started out at about 200$ a month when I owned my own wheels when I was in my 20's with my own car and then when I hit 25 it dropped. and now that my 20 year record is coming up, it will drop again. Don't mean to be a downer but like I said, Ontario insurance is retarded. The current Liberal government of Ontario may be dropping everyone's premiums by 15% but don't hold your breath on that!

My YJ is just a straight pipe from the engine - so I suppose that could have an effect on my noise. The exhaust is pretty friggin' loud - but like I said, only under power. At idle I can hear it but it's "quiet" for the most part. Helluva' lot quieter than the 360 V8 in my J-truck a idle - but under power I'd say they're just about the same - the J-truck is just "deeper"!

HOLY SH!T! 230?! A MONTH?! That's INSANE! Do you have a bad driving record?

I pay a total of $47 a month for liability on my J-truck AND my YJ - TOTAL. Granted, that's strictly liability and I'm sure higher coverage would be significantly more expensive... But $230 seems insanely ridiculous for one vehicle...
He said 280$ a month, but it is insane.

Oops, my bad! I don't know why I typed $230. Maybe this second beer has had more effect on me than I thought!

It's sounding to me like Canada car insurance is just insanely expensive with respect to the US...

420$ a month?? I live about 2 hours north of North bay. (booneyville) And you drive a jeep as the only vehicle? Something is definately not adding up. How old are you? I'm 38 going on 39. I pay extra but I'm not complaining and that just for the collision part. If I didn't add that to my policy I'd pay about maybe 70-80$ a month...

They changed the laws about 15 years ago and now its just stupid. Doesn't matter if your a perfect driver or not. They hit the newbies the worse or new cars(people who pay monthly to the bank are required to pay up the butt), the best one can do when getting a license is take a safety course that actually lowers it down by 10% if that. The gov't #ucked things up, but mostly in Ontario. Where as in other provinces, they pay alot less... So its not Canada in general but which province you live in. Quebec is actually one of the lowest for insurance, Out west I hear its not too bad, BC is not great either.

Yeah I'm pretty shocked.

I don't have a bad driving record. I'm new to Canada and never had Canadian insurance before. Even though I have a 11year clean record.

It's really turning me off. 280 a month has been the lowest so far. Others have been 300+.
I don't know how to justify paying that kind of money for insurance. I'm gonna see if I can go under my partner, she's Canadian. Or find some kind of loophole to get it down. I'd be happy with anything sub 200.

I live in Cambridge , Ontario .
We regularly stay in London on the weekends as my partners mother lives there. Maybe ill look up an insurer in London see if its any difference!

How they get away charging those quotes I don't know!
Cheers

There are a few other factors. Living in an highly urban area doent not help. Actually where I live brings it down. Location location location!! See if you can get on someone elses insurance policy as an occational driver. Its a loophole that you might be able to get away with. Its way cheaper just don't get caught. The age of the vehicle is also another factor. I buy older cars/trucks which totally offsets my insurance dramatically. The newest I own is a 2001 lol I keep behind because even if you buy new, you lose on the depreciation value right the second your off the lot. ITs right stupid. So its not worth it. I see all these new cars/trucks with all the fancy computer gardbage and think to myself... Not for me. That's partially why I went with a jeep last summer. Manual to the hilt!!!!!!

You might benefit in having your folks be the primary driver on your jeep and you being the occational driver (if you live with them of course) which would save you SO MUCH MONEY man...

Last year when I was hunting for my first jeep, I almost picked it up from Muskoka area. Price was right, good looking rig BUT it was in several prior accidents and the current owners picked it up from an auction in Toronto. I passed on that one and put on only summer millage.

Word. My '89 YJ is the newest vehicle I own/insure - so that could also be a factor for me. I know this is irrelevant - but in IOWA they just straight up consider old trucks like mine ('73 J-truck) as "farm use with occasional street driving" (not the ACTUAL term) so its next to NOTHING to insure that baby.

I'm the same as you, man. I hate new vehicles. There's something to be said for improvements in technology - but still. Plastic pieces of crap. Too much computer control and BS that comes along with them... Plus most of them look like sh!t in my opinion. What happened to the classics??

And heck yeah! I HATE driving automatics... I like being in complete control. .. And I get bored.

I hear ya brother, all the power options (EXCEPT power steering of course) are just not that practical and mostly distractions for a driver. I owned a chev lumina a few years ago, and it was a very comfortable drive but when winter hits, the power windows would not work good at all as I smoke in my vehicle (I know I should quit) but its silly little things that don't bode well with me when a simple change in season takes place.

Well after lengthy research

I have two options

1) bite the bullet and pay the 300 a month premiums

Or

2) sell it after owning it for 3 days

I was talking about getting it insured in my girlfriends name and I go under as a named drive. But she already has a car and insurance so if I crashed and they seen were lying to get cheap insurance they could sue us. And since we are looking to buy a house soon. It's a bit of a risk.

F$@k Ontario and its stupid government insurance legislations

Did you not check for quotes before buying the jeep? I did, just to make sure it wasn't retarded because its a 4x4 as I had a small pickup RW drive truck prior. About 5-10 years ago it was sky high insurance to own an SUV or 4x4 vehicle but now its somewhat normal and not held against for owning one. If I were you IMO I would postpone the jeep and work on the house... Sorry man but a house is more important investment then a jeep.

So we cancelled my partners insurance she has on her car. Get insured as common law partners who are engaged, on both vehicles. 120 each a month to be insured on both vehicles.

Sweet!!!!!
Get my plates tomorrow then I'm off for a sweet drive with the hard top off

Well technically there's nothing illegal about it, we are engaged. But no insurance company would offer that solution to us .
We had to find out for ourselves that we could do that .
