Brake Booster Leak

Hi Folks,

I have only had the YJ for a few weeks and was surprised at how bad the brakes were but a read of the web suggested they may be normal for a Jeep!

Yesterday however, I had the AC off and when I braked I could hear a hiss. Today I sucked on the brake booster suction pipe and my wife pressed the brake pedal. To start the booster held vacuum but as soon as the pedal was pressed the vacuum leaked away.

I presume this is not normal and I have a leaky brake booster?

probably bad. you can swap a gm booster to get a little better braking. should be able to find something on internet as to which ones swap.

Thanks folks, that's much as I expected.

Fortunately I have bought from Rock Auto before and ship via Aramex so it should not be a problem getting a new booster.

The YJ is a 94 but I believe a 95's booster is a dual diaphram, gives extra braking power and is a direct swap. If this is the case I will probably order one of those.
