Angry Brake light switch!!!!

OK... WTF?! I'm really pissed off right now and it will probably show in this thread, so I apologize beforehand!

I go out to perform a simple little task (replacing the brake light switch) and the F'n thing turns into an all evening job.

The problem was that the brake lights would stay on from time to time.
I figured, no problem, just replace the brake light switch. I get the old switch off and match it with the new one. GOOD, they match.
I look at the plug and notice one of the wires is kinked.

I go to reinstall the fawkin switch and guess what?! It only goes on ONE way and now the plug hits what looks like the ignition switch mounted on the column. No F'n wonder the lights stayed on.

Can someone please do me a favor?! PLEASE?!?!?! Can someone go out and take a pic of their brake light switch which is mounted on the pedal? PLEASE?

I searched the internet and don't you know that you can find a picture of a goat boning a Labrador, but you can not find a diagram showing the ignition switch and brake light switch mounting on a Jeep! NICE!

Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks

I'm tryin man...That thing is mounted on top of the column with a bracket covering most of it and is also a real pain to get to. I'd pull mine and take a pic but it took me forever to get mine set so my brake lights weren't on all the time.

Gimme a bit longer...I'm headed back out there and see what other angles I can explore.

EDIT: Love that squirrel in your sig

Whew....I got it but I don't really see (on my jeep) how it could be hitting anything.

Thanks coyote!!! I really apreciate you taking the time to do that for me!!!

I see the problem. AMC must have realized their mistake and changed it. Because you have a totally different set up.

My switch looks like this:

It mounts directly on the rod coming out of the brake booster thru the firewall where the pedal and the rod meet. While mounted like this the plug hits the ignition switch when the pedal is in the relaxed position. Not granted... The Jeep is 21 years old and someone could have monkeyed with it.

I know how to fix it, but it requires me going to the parts store and asking them if I can rummage thru their switches. I remember a switch that looked and functioned just like this but had electrical connections coming out the side.

Again, THANKS coyote!!!! You RAWK!!!

UPDATE:

I may have found a switch that works!

It's one for a Wrangler with cruise control. I'll have to cut off the spades coming out the back. Since all 4 terminals operate off the same single circuit, it should work just fine. Either that or you'll all get to hear me cuss more tomorrow.

Hey no problem man... Ya I can see how that setup could be a PITA...I'd say migrate over to the way mine is set up but it would involve too much fabrication or parts swapping to be very practical and there really isn't that much of a benefit to justify that kind of work.

Hope that new switch idea works for ya. I'll bring earmuffs tomorrow just in case.
