I was wheelin tday, trying to climb out of a hole, was in low range ,First gear and must have caught a root or something and snapped the front driver side shaft on my dana 30. I run 36s and a Aussie locker. Trying to see where the best place is to get a cheap axle? There are plenty of Cherokees at my local pick and pull any of those that I can pull it from and do I need to remove the diff cover to pull out my broken axle?
Thanks!
If you are looking to simply replace just one side (be it the inner or outer) snag whichever one you need that has the same series ujoint as what you currently have. As long as its still stock, it'll be a 260 series ujoint.
If its snapped near or at the carrier spline area & jammed in there, yep, its common to need to open the cover, but not always.
It snapped near the hub end and the u joint and piece that sticks into the hub are all toast, I need one that goes from the diff all the way to the hub
