broken shock mount.

first of all... is it wrong if you only noticed you had a broken shock mount because your quality of ride improved making you think "how could that have just happened?"....

well anyway my right rear shock mount on the frame broke, sending my shock to the ground to be folded over and well mutilated. I havent had a good chance to look at it yet only once in the dark. Where can i find a new shock mount? Whats the easiest way to replace it? the old one looks like it was welded in pretty good, I dont have to remove or lift the tub do i? What shocks are good ive got sky jackers on there now and ive heard that they give a rough ride...I can actually say without that shock there my rear is a lot lot lot less stiff... the other shock almost looks like its fully compressed just sitting that cant be right and would explain a rough ride correct?

...one thing after another

What kinda lift do you have? If it is spring over, you should relocate your shock mounts to compensate for lost travel, that would be why it looks like your shock is compressed, or else the wrong length of shock for the lift....

Welding is no problem its getting the old one out and being able to actually access everything...

It looks like the mount might have moved anyway i saw a tab on the frame that looked like it should be a shock mount but wasnt also no SOA. just 4" lift springs. Ill go take a picture and you can tell me what you think.

I just this weekend had this prob. I bough $16 mounts from barnes4wd.com and had a friend inthe club weld them on. Super strong mounts and it gave m e two more inches of flex b/c they hang down two inches over factory.

Im not exactly sure where the factory mounts are...heres a picture... the left is where my mount was and is now broken. The right is the factory mount correct? sorry its hard to see...

and this is the shock on the other side...looks really compressed to me....or is it just the boot? althought the broken shock didnt push itself out either its just hanging there looking like the other one.

shock is too long and way over-compressed

that probably stressed the mount on the other side until it gave out

the ride was so stiff because the shock had no room to cycle with the springs

What I figured... What size shock should I buy? I was looking at quadratechs site and saw they came in different sizes... Is now a good time to do a big upgrade? as in gas reservoir shocks or something along those lines? Im not even sure if they'll offer me any improvement. I noticed the other sides mount was cracked so im going to just replace both at the same time and be done with it... this is pretty much how my build has been going; wheel it, break it, replace it with something way stronger, repeat.
